Frequently Asked Questions about ITIL 2011

Q: When will the ITIL 2011 edition be published?
A: ITIL 2011 was officially published on July 29th, 2011.

Q: Will this update stay in line with the original principles from ITIL v3?
A: The principles of ITIL v3 remain the same in ITIL 2011 core guidance. The core contents and concepts of ITIL remain consistent and are not subject to change. The ITIL 2011 edition has reorganized some of the content, which in some cases moved between chapters or into and out of process sections. This was done to bring a stronger consistency of content flow between each of the five core guides.

Q: Will all the ITIL courses (Foundation and Intermediates) change as a result of ITIL 2011?
A: Yes. All the courses will need updates as part of ITIL 2011.

Q: Which of the ITIL Qualifications has undergone the most change due to the ITIL Update?
A: The Service Strategy (SS) publication was modified the most to present its concepts in a manner more accessible to a broader audience. The concepts themselves are basically the same but are now supplemented with more examples and have been reorganized to some degree. The changes being made to the SS publication ‐ with former content organized into concepts, principles and processes –allowed this publication to be structured more like the other four lifecycle course syllabuses.

Q: Will the official syllabus and exams be changed as part of ITIL 2011?
A: Yes. Since the qualifications and their associated examinations follow syllabus structures, and syllabuses follow how the core guidance is presented, updates were required to both.
For example, exam questions needed to be moved around among learning units to remain balanced across the curriculum.
Q: Will I need to get re-certified if I hold an existing ITIL certificate
A: No. Candidates who hold existing ITIL certification do not need to get re-certified.
Q: Are the exams more difficult than before?
A: No. The exams follow the same weighting for difficulty as the earlier exams.
Q: When will the new exams be released?
A: The release dates of the revised exams which are fully aligned to the updated edition of ITIL guidance have not been announced yet by the official ITIL certification body.
Q: Are MegaSoft ITIL courses being updated to reflect ITIL 2011?
A: Yes. Our courseware providers are updating its entire ITIL v3 product suite and will release the new courses by end of 2011 before revised papers which are fully aligned to the updated edition of ITIL guidance become available. The official exams that are currently available can be taken using the current courseware as study material.
Q: I want to take ITIL courses and exams and get certified. Should I wait until the courses are updated?
A: No. Like service management in general, ITIL products undergo continual improvements and the qualifications will follow suit, but the basic core concepts of ITIL remain consistent across the current and updated versions. You will derive the same benefit from gaining ITIL qualifications now - a globally recognized professional ITSM qualification that reflect current best practice in the industry.
